All car insurance policies would stipulate certain duties which the policyholder should perform when a loss or damage had occurred to the car. The exact duties would vary from policy to policy. Property damage claim duties would differ from liability claims. These duties would be mentioned in the ‘Conditions’ section of the car insurance policy. If the policyholder had not performed one or more of such duties, the insurance company would be relieved from its obligation to pay the compensation for that particular claim. The duties of the policyholder are contractual to bind the insurance company when the claim is made.
