Auto insurance is mandatory in the US and it is mandatory for every motorist to have at least the minimum auto insurance coverage.  Auto insurance is an absolute necessity and ideally every motorist must have adequate auto insurance coverage.  However, there are still a good number of uninsured motorists on the road and it is not the best situation. Even if the state does not make it mandatory, one must realize that having insurance coverage is for personal protection and protection to property more than anything else.

Accidents are just waiting to happen and sometimes you might be the unfortunate one who is not at fault and still end up with a damaged vehicle.  If it is a rear end collision then you are not responsible and yet you will have to bear the damages.  Sometimes, there could be damage to life and property due to some natural causes and auto insurance at such times would be absolutely essential and if a person is uninsured the damages could ruin his entire life as he will never be able to cover the costs in case of a bad crash or if the vehicle is totaled.

When a person is insured then he can claim for auto insurance for the damages caused to the person and the vehicle depending on the type of coverage that he has.  There are some very common types of auto insurance claims such as:

  • The most common accidents are rear end collisions.  This occurs when you accidentally hit the rear end of the car ahead of you.  This might have happened if you were driving too fast or if were driving too close.  This claim will involve the rear-ender fender bender.
  • Damage to the windshields is the most common claim as there are rocks or tree branches that constantly keep falling even on vehicles that are parked outside.  Having an insurance cover will help in covering damage to windshields.
  • Theft and vandalism is also another common problem which is addressed in the auto insurance claims.  Luxury cars are commonly stolen to make some easy money.  At other times unemployed youth might resort to vandalism and you might be the unfortunate victim.  In such instances having auto insurance really helps.

There are many other smaller damages that are ideally taken care of the individual if it doesn’t cost much.  One must ensure that only the necessary claims are made.
