The bodily injury liability coverage provides protection if the policyholder is responsible for the bodily injuries or death of others. If the other party filed a lawsuit against the insured person, this policy would offer a legal defense. However, this policy would cover only the medical bills, pain and suffering, and loss of income. The damage to the cars and property would not be covered by this policy. This coverage is mandatory in nearly all the states. The coverage limit is the maximum amounts that would be paid per incident, per person, respectively. Hence, the limits selected should not be too low, since the policyholder would be forced to pay the excess amount in the damages award would have to be paid out of personal resources. In a serious accident, this could be a serious financial burden.
