Rising auto insurance claims due to teen accidents

24A major auto insurer has reported that there is a rise in the number of vehicle accidents amongst young drivers. By October, most young people are expected to have spent at least 8 weeks in school and the routines too, seem to be stable and fixed, which brings us to the questions as to what happened to indicate the rise?

As per recent reports, October is a dangerous month for teenage drivers in the country. In fact, the fall season is the most dangerous period for 70% of the country. This has come from an analysis of the collision and injury claims that have happened. An increase of 15% has been seen in auto insurance collision and injury claims around this period. Even as car crashes remain the biggest killer of teens, October has proved to be the most dangerous period. A large part of these claims are due to accidents occurring from driver distraction, with 60% of the drivers not following the normal regulations and admitting to talking on phone, reading and sending text messages etc.

This is one of the reasons, why young people find it hard to get cheap auto insurance. In fact, many teens give highest priority to staying in touch through instant communication. More and more young teenagers are finding it hard to resist reading text messages while driving. Not replying to these messages seems equally rude to these teens which is becoming a major cause of concern. The increasing accidents are in fact adding up to the highest risk auto insurance pool amongst all drivers which speaks a lot. However, auto insurance claims are not the only thing at stake here. Distracted driving, which could be just as dangerous as alcohol or drug addictions could be when it comes to lowering the reaction time of the drivers, needs to be addressed by parents of young drivers too.

This is also one of the reasons why auto insurance premiums are slightly lower for students who have very good grades in their college. This is because such students are likely to be perceived as being more responsible and behaving in a more matured way. In a simple sense, such students are less likely to get distracted while driving whether it is through texting messages or reading them from friends. A certain level of awareness is required beyond just the fear of rising auto insurance prices to stop teens from driving recklessly.
