The U.S. National Transportation Safety Board has imposed a ban on use of mobile phones by the drivers to prevent the distracted drive crash cases in the country on Thursday.

While imposing the ban, Deborah Hersman, NTSB Chairman in Washington hearing exclaimed that a decision to this effect is taken to put a stop on distract driving, as no call or text is as important as human life.

According to Kelly Nantel, an NTSB spokeswoman, the requisite mobile ban is not going to affect the global positioning systems being installed into automobiles such as General Motors Co.’s OnStar.

Furthermore the NTSB’s director of highway safety, Donald Karol, appreciating the ban claimed that US agencies had been suggesting the imposition for collision warning system from 20th century.

As per the statistics given by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, there were approx 3100 death cases and 10 percent US road fatalities were witnessed in 2010 due to the distracted driving crashes.

According to the recent statistical revelation, there is a massive decrease of 3 percent in the US road fatalities in the last year, said by NHTSA.

However, the U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood feels that the driver distraction has become the major safety problem in US. He feels that drivers can be distracted for using the any mobile application, be it text message or call.

He further clarified that there is hardly any time when the drivers are not using their phones while driving and disobey the traffic rules. This behavior poses the great threat to the safety norms and human life.

It is to mention that LaHood campaign against the use of mobile phones by the drivers while driving has been successfully imposed in the 30 states of America. Now he thinks for the regulation of the systems related to vehicle information and entertainment for the Ford Motor Co.’s Sync or OnStar.

As per the confirmation given by the Deborah Hersman, NTSB Chairman that the requisite ban need to be imposed in every state of the US, keeping into consideration the regulation of the driver’s behavior. He said that the strict enforcement of law should be carried out for the driving distraction crash case, in the way it is being done for the seat- belt use and drunk driving.

Following the ban for the use mobile phones, while driving, has led the Ford Company to come with various telematics and hands-free electronics products.
