As per a publication in Automotive News a couple of days ago, The 2014 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel has been declared as the best fuel efficient pick up in the United States. The diesel powered RAM 1500 offering a mileage 28 miles per gallon has picked up the best rating among all pick up vehicles in the country that was announced by the EPA’s fuel economy government website. The 1500 also has a rating of 20 mpg in city mileage and the average city and highway combined rating for it is 23 mpg.

As per this EPA rating for all full-sized pickup vehicles, the RAM has two most fuel efficient models. The RAM 1500 HFE has a city rating of 18 mpg, highway rating of 25 mpg and a combined city highway rating of 21mpg – making it the second best fuel efficient pickup in the country. According to Chrysler, who started assembling the RAM 1500 variation at their Warren Truck Assembly Plant in Detroit only last month, they will start delivering the cars to the dealers from next month and dealers can start placing their orders with the company from this Friday, that is February 7, 2014.

Coming fall, Ford is also planning to counterpunch the mileage of their flight of pickup vehicles with the redesigned versions of 2015 F-150 which is going to be manufactured with a lightweight aluminum body.

The 3.0-liter diesel V6 diesel engine of the RAM 1500 EcoDiesel is made by an Italian company VM Motori S.p.A, which is actually a subsidiary fiat. The 240hp engine is capable of generating a torque of 420 pounds-feet and the EcoDiesel is also fitted with an eight speed fully automated transmission system. The exhaust of the engine is treated with urea for reducing smog causing nitro oxide emission and there is an onboard urea tank that will require a refill after every 10,000 mile drive.

Executives from Chrysler are quite confident that the demand for these light-duty diesel pickups will be pretty strong for they are going to be the first since they were introduced and sold by General Motors during the middle of the 1990s. One of them also estimated that the diesel version is going to account for around 30% of total RAM 1500 sell in America.
The EcoDiesel has a starting price of $30,465 that also includes the delivery price which is almost $3000 dollar more than the RAM 1500 variation equipped with a 5.7-liter Hemi V8 engine.
