Automobile insurance costs seem to rise every year. Here are some ways that you might be able to save a few bucks on your car insurance policy.

First check around and get several quotes. Not all insurance companies will offer you the same rates. Gather all of your information about your vehicle and the current coverage that you carry so it will be faster and easier to compare prices.

Check and see if they offer a multi-vehicle discount. If you have more than one car on your policy you can get a discount for insuring all of the vehicles in your household.

If you are a good student or you have a good student in your household that will be insured on your policy, some companies offer this discount as an incentive to keep good grades.

Factory installed air bags are usually a factor in reduced rates as are any additional safety features such as alarm systems or any other type of anti theft devices.

Keeping your driving record clean will get you discounted rates at some insurance companies. Many have limitations such as no traffic violations within the last three years.

Older drivers are viewed as safer drivers and if you are over the age of 50 you could get lower rates for your insurance.

Combining your insurance will result in reduced rates. For example, if you have your homeowners and automobile insurance with the same company they may give you a discount on your auto insurance. The same goes with life insurance and auto insurance for a lowered rate.

Probably the easiest way to reduce your car insurance costs is to raise your deductible. You could save from 15% to 30% just by raising your deductible from $200 to $500.

Some companies reward their safe drivers and loyal customers with reward. If you have been with the same company for so many years and/or not had an at fault accident during a certain period of time, some discounts may apply.

Younger and older (55+) are given discounted rates if they attend and pass a drivers education class. Drivers who are unmarried, under 21 and still live at home with their parents are eligible for discounts and students or other under 21-year old drivers can receive a discount for attending and passing an accredited driving school.

Shop around for the best rates when you are looking for car insurance. Ask if any or all of the above discounts are available to keep your insurance costs down.
