Getting auto collision insurance in a good package deal

Automobile insurance is one of the most common things that Americans invest in. With the number of accidents that occur in a day, each driver makes sure that they are financially secured by this insurance. Most often than not, incidents such as these can be very costly and can ruin the household’s budget. Statistics say that the average cost of a minor car accident can amount up to $1000 while a major car crash can be as much as $5000, enough to buy a second hand car. There are lots of auto insurance companies out there that are ready to take in policyholders but it is the role of the driver to see which company can offer the best deal.

One of the things that these car insurance companies offer would be full coverage insurance. When we say full coverage, of course, a customer or a prospect policyholder would think of its idealistic description and that is having the company cover whatever happens to the vehicle and the driver who is the policyholder. Well, sad to say, that is not how a full coverage auto insurance policy goes. Auto insurance companies may give us that impression but the truth is it is a combination of two basic vehicle damage coverage – automobile collision insurance and comprehensive insurance. It does not include medical expenses for injured parties.

A comprehensive automobile insurance covers the cost to any damage to a vehicle that is caused by natural phenomenon, fire, or anything that can damage the car apart from collision. This is what most auto insurance companies call the “other-than-collision” coverage. Auto collision insurance on the other hand covers your vehicle for any damage brought by colliding with another car or an object. In the instance of colliding with another vehicle, car insurance companies will evaluate whether you are the one at fault or not. The amount that will be released for the cost of repair will be based on this investigation.

Recklessness of the policyholder may lead to a lesser amount compared to a policyholder who is deemed as the victim. The importance of having this type of auto insurance is that even if you get less the amount because you are at fault, you still get something and that should help you in your expenses. You just have to be more careful and alert when you are driving and this is not just to have cheap car insurance but also for yours and others’ safety on the road.
